Before McDonald, Worcester had drive-up fast food hamburgs
« on: August 11, 2008, 07:07:43 AM »
Before McDonald hamburgers on south Main street Worcester had 2 drive-up hamburger places and I don't remember their names.
One was on West Boylston Street a little past Mountain street but not as far out as Saint Christoper's.
The other was near Hope cemetery on Hope Ave near corner of Webster street and I can't remember its name.
The time frame would have been something like 1959-early 1960's.
Believe prices were something like, burger 19 cents, fries 15 cents, shake 25 cents, coke 10 cents.

Does this ring a bell with you, can you provide a name? or info

The one I remember was on West Boylston St., it was called Hawkeyes.

Thanks Linda & Gene,
Hawkeyes was the place, two locations in Worcester, for the life of me I couldn't think of their name. They also had onion rings.

There was also a Kemp's Hamburger's on Park Avenue, between Pleasant and Chandler Streets is the late 60's.

Yup Leda, remember Kemp's hamburger in the 1960's on Park Ave.
They were across from an A&P (now a CVS pharmacy).
The Kemp's location is now a "Worcester Five Cents Savings Bank".
Google earth is a fantastic site, their street views at 278 park ave show the present day view from street level.
