The best place to find out is "American Wrench Makers" by Kenneth Cope. He lays out their whole history.

Started in Worcester in the early 1800's, had a patent for a screw-type (monkey) wrench, Later became Coes Knife Co. making industrail knives-closed in early 1990's.

Coes pond (resevoir) still exists, right there behind Coes Dam.
