Worcester Irish Genealogy/History / Re: Rev. John J. Power

Hello. I am currently doing research on the Diocese of Worcester and know that Rev. John J Power was the founding priest of two of Worcester's parishes, the former Saint Anne (1856-1970) which was on Eastern Ave, and what is now the Cathedral of Saint Paul (1869) on Chatham and High Streets. According to your post, the marriage would have likely taken place at Saint Anne. In the 1960's Saint Anne's was merged with Our Lady of Mount Carmel and that is likely where the records are kept.
Here is the contact information for Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Parish:  http://www.mtcarmel.ws/index.cfm?load=page&page=150

If you want the official marriage certificate you might also want to contact Worcester's City Clerk: http://www.worcesterma.gov/city-clerk

Hope this helps.

Information Wanted / Gardner State Colony
« Last post by hmorrison on March 21, 2014, 09:26:36 AM »
Any information or assistance would be greatly appreciated on how I could go about obtaining a patient's record that was resident at Gardner State Colony in 1920.  Unfortunately, living in Ireland leaves me at a disadvantage when it comes to visiting local Worcester research facilities.. Many thanks in anticipation .....

Not sure if this will help, but my research shows he was a Catholic priest - you probably already knew that  :)

If you lived in Worcester, well into the 1960's, you knew of a local neighborhood spa.
They were the then 7-11's, a place to get a newspaper, cigarettes, loaf of bread, etc.
Our local spa on West street also had a back room with a phone to take racing bets, and you could also pick 3 numbers before there was a State Loto.

I may have asked this question along time ago but I am going to ask it again ..... Where did the church records for St. Anne's go?  I have asked at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and can never get a straight answer from them .... I don't understand why they just blow you off ... I have a lot of Irish relatives who were members of St. Anne's... I would love to get their church records....

Parents:  Patrick McEvoy 1779??-1835?? and Anne Rice 1798-1876
Need to confirm:  a) was Margaret McEvoy/McAvoy born in Little Ash, County Louth as posted in another popular web source? ( I speculate Patrick died when Anne was 6-7 months pregnant with Margaret; I have the baptism record )  b) why, on Margaret's death record, does my grandfather--the informant and nephew, and his cousin Dr. Thomas Edward McEvoy view and sign that Margaret's father was Daniel McEvoy! ? ( I would like to see a copy of the Worcester Gazettee obit May 4 +, 1906 ).
Thanks in advance for any help one can pass on. . .

My grandmother was a Daley and three of her sisters emigrated to Worcester.

They were all born in Gortagolane, Killarney, to John Daley and Julia Donoghue. John was the son of Daniel Daley and Hanora Kelley. Julia the d. of Hugh Donoghue and Mary Sullivan--some of the Worcester Donoghues trace back to them.

The three sisters are:
Catherine, b. 1872, emg. 1893, m. William Ring, and had three children: John, Marion, and Catherine.
Julia, b. 1880, emg. 1903, m. William B. Collins, had four children: Mildred, Evelyn, Katherine, and William.
Mary, b. 1878, m. O'Donnell, no children.

The Rings and the Collins lived in the Vernon Hill area; Mary spent the last decades of her life on Eastern Ave., across from the convent.
